Green hydrogen is considered a key component of the global energy transition. Interest in this energy source is also growing in Switzerland, where it is becoming increasingly important both in an energy system and in the industrial sector. Technopark Winterthur will be addressing this topic at a cluster event on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
Hydrogen is more than just an energy source of the future: it is already playing an increasingly important role in research, industry and energy supply. The significance of green hydrogen in Switzerland particularly will be the focus of the cluster event at Technopark Winterthur on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
Two renowned experts will provide insights into current developments and prospects. Veronika Schelling, Hydrogen Mobility & Energy Leader at Burckhardt Compression, will highlight the role hydrogen will play in the future energy mix and how companies can already benefit from the growing markets today. Prof. Dr. Markus Friedl, Director of the Institute for Energy Technology (IET) at OST – University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, will shed light on the state of research in Switzerland. His focus will be on power-to-X and power-to-gas technologies and their significance for a sustainable energy system.
The event is aimed at companies, researchers and interested professionals who want to learn about the opportunities and challenges of green hydrogen. Topics will include the role of green hydrogen in the global energy system, current research in Switzerland and specific areas of application for the economy.
Embedded in the cluster initiative
This event organised by the Smart Energy cluster fits seamlessly into the series of events organised by the cluster initiative. In addition to Smart Energy, this initiative also encompasses the Smart Machines and Smart Health clusters and was launched in 2020 by the House of Winterthur, the Winterthur Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Association, and Technopark Winterthur. Its aim is to strengthen exchange between business, research and politics and to promote innovation in forward-looking industries.
Two experts with a unique perspective
Veronika Schelling has more than 13 years of experience in the polymer, oil & gas and hydrogen industries. As graduate of ETH Zurich with a degree in mechanical and process engineering, she has worked on international projects in the fields of process engineering, plant construction, technical sales, business development and strategy. She lives with her family in Winterthur.
Markus Friedl is Professor of Thermal and Fluid Dynamics at OST, where he heads the Institute of Energy Technology. With a doctorate in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich and further training in management, he combines academic depth with industrial experience. His research focuses on thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and power-to-X, among other areas.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at Technopark Winterthur. The start time and duration are yet to be announced. Registration is required. Click here to register.
The event will be held in German.
