Switzerland must increasingly rely on smart factories in order to remain competitive as a high-cost country, ensure high quality standards, and address the shortage of skilled workers. Networked production (Industry 4.0) increases productivity, enables flexibility, and allows for optimised real-time quality control as well as continuous innovation — all of which are crucial for maintaining Switzerland’s reputation for quality. In addition, digitalisation helps secure integration into global value chains, which is especially important for SMEs. Smart factories are therefore a key factor in preserving Switzerland’s position as a leading location for production and innovation.
