The ZHAW Startup Challenge 2026 was once again a great success in 2026. Following workshops and coaching sessions, three startups were able to win over the jury with their ideas. The field of startups could not have been more diverse.
The winners of the ZHAW Startup Challenge 2026 have been announced: First place went to Zobaer Ahmed Salam and Alex Fustagueras Gómez with Spelly AI. The startup is developing an AI-powered solution that provides users with immediate and detailed feedback on their pronunciation. The technology analyzes spoken language and provides precise, actionable tips that allow users to specifically improve their pronunciation.
Thomas Gysin and Linus Leuch took second place with EZRA. The project aims to integrate all the network equipment of a 5G network into a single compact device. This should make setting up a 5G network in the future as easy as configuring a Wi-Fi router—while ensuring reliability, security, and low latency at carrier-grade levels.
Third place went to Julia Nguyen, Alexandra Gololobova, and Chiara B. with waiTime. The startup is developing a smart waiting list solution for Swiss outpatient clinics and medical practices. If appointments are canceled at short notice, open time slots are automatically refilled. This ensures that treatment rooms remain in use, doctors waste less time, and patients get an appointment faster.
The ZHAW Startup Challenge gives students the opportunity to further develop their business ideas, gather practical feedback, and take their first steps toward launching a startup. The 2026 edition once again demonstrated the tremendous innovative drive and entrepreneurial spirit within the ZHAW community.
We would like to thank all participants, coaches, mentors, jury members, and partners who made this year’s challenge possible.
If you missed the ZHAW Startup Challenge 2026, you can already register for the next edition, which will begin in the spring semester of 2027.
