A cluster is a network of business, science and society in a specific economic sector. Everyone benefits from the cooperation. Clusters are of great importance for the innovative power of a region. That is why we foster three clusters in Winterthur.
The Winterthur region is one of the best developed areas in Switzerland and is a recognized center of practice-oriented education. Pioneering spirit and innovative ability have been a tradition here since the beginning of industrialization and even today the area is actively used for technology and future topics. The cluster topics were selected based on the existing competencies, the resident companies, the innovation potential and the already existing network structures. The focus of the cluster activities is on digitization, new business models and the opening of market opportunities. In their designation, the clusters are therefore given the adjective “smart”. Each cluster is coordinated by a cluster manager.
In "smart energy", the focus is on topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energies, sustainable transport, climate neutrality and the circular economy. Responsible: Stève Mérillat (Technopark Winterthur)
This cluster revolves around care, rehabilitation, health economics and digital tools. We leave pharmaceuticals and biotechnology to other clusters that already exist. Responsible: Jakob Bächtold (House of Winterthur)
Companies in this cluster are interested in sensor technology, IIoT, generative manufacturing processes, digital twins and augmented reality. Responsible: Ralph Peterli (Winterthur Chamber of Commerce and Employers' Association, HAW)
