Together with V-Locker AG, Winterthur Technopark tenant Meyer-Hayoz Design Engineering AG was awarded the federal "Ecodesign" prize in Berlin by Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke.
Together with Jens Kirchhoff, CEO of the Swiss startup V-Locker AG, Wolfgang Meyer-Hayoz, founder and CEO of Meyer-Hayoz Design Engineering AG and responsible for product and corporate design, was able to present the “V-Locker Smart Bike Parking System” and was awarded the Federal Prize “Ecodesign” by the Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke in Berlin at the beginning of December.
What are V-Locker AG’s goals:
For climate-friendly mobility with bicycles and e-bikes, a suitable infrastructure is a basic prerequisite. In the automated V-Locker Smart Bike Parking System with digital operating and service platform, up to 60 bikes can be safely stored in one car parking space. Thanks to individual facade design, the modular towers blend into the urban environment. Greenery, glass, solar or wood cladding are possible. Assembly and disassembly require minimal effort. Operation is intuitive via smartphone app. There are already several installations in Germany and Switzerland, and more are in the planning phase.
Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke:
“How good or harmful a product is for the environment is largely determined by its design. That is why the EU Commission’s initiative for sustainable products is so important. In the circle of EU member states, I am working to ensure that in the future only truly sustainable products that can be repaired or recycled, for example, enter the domestic market. For more than ten years now, the winning projects of the German Ecodesign Award have repeatedly demonstrated what sustainable products or services of the future could look like. The interplay between outstanding design and ecology is the unique selling point of the award. Environmentally friendly products and services are the key to sustainable consumption.”
Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner, President of the Federal Environment Agency (UBA):
“The award-winning projects impressively demonstrate what is possible in ecodesign. We need more such bold ideas for the future that question existing infrastructures and ways of thinking and offer intelligent approaches to solutions.”
We congratulate Wolfgang Meyer-Hayoz and Meyer-Hayoz Design Engineering AG on the award received and look forward to further innovative design ideas.
