Energy specialist Martin Ovenstone not only supports his customers in implementing PV systems, he also uses his smart meter to visualise where the energy is flowing.
The energy company Ovenstone Engineering GmbH moved into TECHNOPARK Winterthur a few months ago. Founder and Managing Director Martin Ovenstone advises and supports his customers in the realisation of PV systems with the help of his team. He also visualises where the energy from their systems is going and offers billing solutions. His team supports him both technically and administratively. This gives customers the freedom to decide what they want to use the energy for. A need for which there was previously no real solution.
Roots in practice
Martin Ovenstone realised when converting and charging his own surplus electricity from his PV system that there were few cost-effective solutions for this. He also comes from a family of entrepreneurs. This laid the foundations for starting his own business in 2019. The computer science engineer then developed his own software to simplify billing and visualise the energy data.
An individualised solution
Normally, electricity costs are billed on a quarterly basis. This means that it is only possible to roughly estimate how consumption and costs will develop. Until now, there has been no overview of how much electricity each appliance has consumed or generated on which day. Martin Ovenstone therefore sees the importance of prompt visualisation and display with the help of a smart meter.
Martin Ovenstone has also recognised the potential for advice and offers his customers a solution and guidance tailored to their specific case. Although there are enough advice centres, many of these concepts are of little help to consumers as they cannot go into too much detail.
From the garden to the TECHNOPARK Winterthur
When Martin Ovenstone founded the company, he worked from his home in Winterthur. Around six months ago, he realised that he wanted to take the next step towards professionalisation. “A customer meeting in your own garden is nice and also personal, but booking a meeting room in the Technopark looks more professional.”, says the Ovenstone Engineering Managing Director. The Technopark environment is ideal for him. On the one hand, he can utilise synergies with other companies, and on the other, the excellent Technopark infrastructure allows him to concentrate fully on his work.
In future, Ovenstone Engineering wants to be a strong partner in the region in the area of PV systems for apartment blocks and industrial companies. According to Martin Ovenstone, it is not only important to install the systems, there is also a great need for maintenance. What is certain is that Martin Ovenstone does not want to miss out on being part of the process on the construction site and implementing his systems. This connection to practice will always be essential.
