The cluster initiative launched by HAW, TPW and HoW in 2020 made considerable progress in 2024 despite global challenges in the areas of climate, energy and health. It strengthens knowledge transfer, regional cooperation and innovation in the mechanical engineering, energy and health clusters in order to promote Winterthur as a business location in the long term.
The cluster initiative launched by HAW, TPW and HoW in 2020 strengthened knowledge transfer, networking and innovative strength in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy and health in 2024. The aim of the initiative is to utilise existing expertise, promote jobs and further establish Winterthur as a business location. Despite visible successes, further development work is still required to achieve a greater impact beyond the region.
Innovative projects and networks
Numerous events have strengthened the cluster networks and brought together experts from business and science. Technologies, best practices and projects were discussed together. The ZHAW once again played a leading role by involving regional companies in research projects and promoting student work in the fields of smart machines, smart energy and smart health. In particular, the Smart Machines cluster set the tone with innovative student theses, which were honoured with a prize of CHF 10,000. This emphasises the importance of Winterthur as a leading location for mechanical engineering.
Setting the course for the future
Despite the challenges of 2024, the initiative is laying important foundations for long-term success. In the future, HAW, TPW and HoW plan to further expand the programmes of the three clusters and make greater use of synergies. Companies and research institutes are invited to play an active role and shape the future of the Winterthur region together. The initiative remains an important driver of innovation and economic development in the region.
