The cluster initiative launched by the Winterthur Chamber of Commerce and Employers' Association (HAW), Technopark Winterthur (TPW) and House of Winterthur (HoW) can look back on an extremely successful year in 2025. In a challenging economic environment increasingly characterised by price pressure, the initiative has established itself as a central hub for innovation and growth in the region.
Despite global uncertainties and increased cost pressures, the initiators are pleased with the stable networks and consistent cooperation between business, educational institutions and research facilities. The vision of Winterthur as a strong location was brought to life last year, which was reflected in valuable synergies at events and joint projects.
Strong networks and technological breakthroughs
The year 2025 was marked by high-calibre specialist events that brought together experts from business and science:
Particularly noteworthy is the role played by start-ups, which impress with their innovative strength and receive targeted financial support and networking platforms from HAW. Winterthur benefits from the high concentration of industrial expertise offered by established large companies. Excellence in research: awards for the best work One highlight of the year was the fifth presentation of the CHF 10,000 prize awarded by the Johann Jacob Rieter Foundation and HAW. Kevin Gertsch and Alain Lützelschwab won for their autonomous prototype system for measuring optical density in bioreactors, which represents an important proof of concept for medical research.
Outlook for 2026: pooling synergies
For 2026, those responsible for the Smart Machines, Smart Health and Smart Energy clusters are planning to coordinate their programmes even more closely. The aim is to make optimum use of interfaces and promote cross-thematic innovation.
Companies and research institutes are still invited to actively contribute their expertise and help shape the future of the Winterthur region. They can address their ideas and interests directly to the managing directors of HAW, TPW and HoW.
