The startup Binabik has chosen Technopark Winterthur as its location. The spin-off from the ZHAW Center for Artificial Intelligence is developing a “brain” for humanoid robots using agent-based artificial intelligence (AI), enabling them to act autonomously and flexibly.
The deep tech startup Binabik has chosen Winterthur as its founding location. The company, which was launched in January 2026, is a spin-off of the newly established Center for Artificial Intelligence at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). The move to Technopark Winterthur was supported by the two regional development agencies Greater Zurich Area and House of Winterthur.
According to a press release, the proximity to ZHAW was just as decisive for the location choice as access to Zurich’s technology ecosystem. “Winterthur offers the ideal combination of industrial tradition and technological innovation,” CEO Jorgen Peña Queralta is quoted as saying. For Jakob Bächtold, Managing Director and Head of Business at House of Winterthur, Binabik’s move underscores “Winterthur’s growing importance in the fields of AI and robotics. The connection between ZHAW, Technopark, and an active startup ecosystem creates an environment where deep-tech companies can not only establish themselves but also grow.”
Binabik is developing what it calls an “Agentic Brain” using physical AI. This orchestration platform enables mobile humanoid robots to act based on the situation, interact with people, and perform tasks without the need for additional training. Binabik robots handle repetitive tasks such as sorting and loading. With this, the startup aims to address the shortage of skilled workers in logistics and production and relieve the burden on existing teams.
